船长 Pepper 驾着小船来到一座阳光小岛，手里的旧地图上画着一个大大的红叉。鹦鹉 Polly 叼着地图，小螃蟹 Nip 最喜欢把自己埋进沙子里。他们先在棕榈树下挖，挖出来的却是一只旧靴子。一阵风把地图吹走了，Polly 飞上天把它追了回来。在大圆石旁边再挖一次，挖出了一只装满贝壳的木头宝箱。
这本书的新单词
挖，把沙子刨开挖出一个洞。出现 8 次，每一次都能看到铲子或蟹钳真的把沙子扬起来。
埋，把东西放进洞里再用沙子盖住。出现 6 次：Nip 把自己埋进沙里、被埋起来的旧宝箱，还有大家留给新朋友的贝壳。
书里的句子是故意重复的（“Dig, dig!”、“a big red X”），还不识字的孩子读到第四页就能跟着说。其余都是孩子熟悉的常用词，比如 map、sand、ship、shell、rock。

给家长的小建议
- 第一遍用 Read to me，让孩子只管听和看。
- 翻到第三页之前停一下，问孩子：“沙子下面会挖出什么？”让孩子猜（是一只靴子！）。
- 在点贝壳的游戏页，每点一次就一起说：“Bury the shell!”
- 在家真的玩一次：把小玩具埋进沙坑或毯子下，画一张带红叉的地图，让孩子去 dig 出来。
