Here is Bun, a little grey bunny. Here is the sun, and from down in the grass it looks so little. “I can get the sun!” says Bun. Run, Bun, run, up the hill! The sun is up, up, up. Jump, Bun, jump, but Bun can not get it. The sun goes down, down, down, and then, look: the sun is in the pond! Bun jumps in. Splash! It is not the sun. Bun is wet! That night Bun goes to bed, and in the morning up pops the sun, right over Bun’s bed. Bun got the sun!

The new words in this book
The big bright light in the sky. It comes up 10 times, and the paper sun is on the page every time: it rises up, up, up, sticks out its tongue at Bun, goes down at sunset, shows in the pond and pops up in the morning.
Bun is the little bunny in this book. The name comes up 12 times, and Bun is there every time: running up the hill, jumping for the sun, diving into the pond, dripping wet and fast asleep in a tiny bed.
This is a Level 2 decodable reader: almost every word is either a short-vowel word a child can sound out (sun, bun, run, get, got, wet, bed, hill, not) or one of the very first sight words (here, look, said, jump, up, down, little). 95% of the words are at that level; the only harder ones, pond, splash and pops, are shown big in the pictures. The two new words, sun and bun, rhyme and differ only in the first letter, so the child learns to look at the start of the word, and the refrain “Run, Bun, run!” lets a new reader join in from page 3.
