It is Mia’s first day at kindergarten. “Bye, Mama!” Mama waves and goes out of the door, and Mia is shy. Then her teacher kneels down and says hello. At the drawing table Anna, a classmate, sees that Mia has no crayons, and gives her a red one. They draw a picture together: the teacher, the classmate and Mia, holding hands. At home time Mia waves “Bye, teacher! Bye, classmate!” and runs to Mama, happy.

The new words in this book
The grown-up at school who helps children learn. It comes up 5 times, and every time the teacher is on the page and answers: she waves hello, kneels down to Mia, lights up in the children’s picture and waves bye at home time.
A child who is in your class at school. It comes up 5 times: Anna skips over to Mia, gives her a crayon, draws with her, lights up in the picture and waves bye.
Made for children just starting kindergarten, with the words on a real kindergarten class sheet: hello, bye, I am, she is, me, crayons, had, gave, draw and picture. Each sentence is short (2 to 6 words) and the patterns come back with one word changing: “Hello! I am your teacher.” / “Hi! I am Anna.” and “This is my teacher.” / “This is my classmate.” / “This is me!” Every other word is one a 4-year-old already knows.

Tips for parents
- First time: use Read to me and just enjoy the pictures together. It takes about a minute and a half.
- Before the first day of school, read it together and talk about your child’s own teacher and classmates.
- Read it again and pause before “teacher” or “classmate”, so your child can say it.
- On the tap page, tap every crayon and watch it draw on the paper. Then say “This is my picture!” together.
